A leading infrastructure services provider delivering essential operations across the telecommunications, defense, transport, and social infrastructure sectors needed a massive upgrade. To keep pace with its growing operational footprint across Australia and New Zealand, the organization needed to relocate and consolidate its operations into a new purpose-built site in Cremorne, Victoria.

The goal was to create a next-generation command center capable of real-time monitoring and rapid crisis response. The scope demanded the integration of a massive LED video wall and highly intuitive control systems engineered specifically for a resilient, 24-hour mission-critical environment.

The pre-deployment pain points

Managing national infrastructure requires absolute visibility, but the client had previously operated from multiple disconnected control centers. This fragmented model created deep operational silos between teams and severely limited their situational awareness. When managing nationwide incidents, these physical and technological divisions slowed down coordination and caused critical delays in decision-making.

The legacy technology in these older facilities lacked the adaptability and resilience required to support continuous service management. Operators were subjected to stressful workflows with complex interfaces that failed to meet the extreme demands of real-world pressure scenarios.

To compound these operational hurdles, there was a massive physical constraint. The new operations center was housed inside a heritage-listed building. The strict architectural limitations of this historic site prevented the deployment of any large-scale visualization tools, rendering standard installation methods impossible.

The Solution

To eliminate these blind spots, the engineering team designed a unified visual platform centered around a massive 16-meter-wide DiColor LED wall boasting native 8K resolution. To ensure zero latency and absolute reliability during emergencies, this display is powered by a Novastar H15 processor utilizing hardware-based frame routing. This provides operators with an unparalleled visual canvas to monitor live data feeds, CCTV, and broadcast media simultaneously.

Because complex technology is a liability under pressure, the integration team is deeply focused on the operator experience. They co-designed simplified Crestron touch-panel interfaces through direct workshops and prototyping with the facility staff. This setup allows operators to instantly switch the room layout between standard daily operations, emergency response modes, and client demonstration layouts at the push of a button.

Project Execution:

Deploying a mission-critical system within a heritage-listed site required extreme engineering precision. To safely support the massive LED structure without violating architectural preservation rules, the team designed and installed a bespoke custom steel frame. This structure was engineered and mounted at height with incredibly strict sub-2mm tolerances, perfectly balancing structural safety with the building restrictions.

To ensure the system could survive a relentless 24-hour operating cycle, redundancy was built in from day one. The design incorporated modular cabling, robust routing paths, and AV-over-IP fallbacks to ensure complete operational reliability and eliminate the risk of downtime. This flawless execution required constant collaboration between operations, ICT, facilities, and brand teams to align technical performance with the required visual impact.

The Result

Completed in April 2024, the new national operations center has completely transformed the way the organization manages infrastructure. By consolidating multiple disparate control rooms into a single unified environment, operational silos have been entirely erased.

Operators now experience significantly less stress due to the highly intuitive, workshop-tested workflows. They have total situational awareness and can make faster, highly accurate decisions during critical infrastructure events.
